Production / Product Management

Like the conductor in an orchestra, our product creators set the tone for what’s to come. Our product creators’ main responsibility is the creative vision and strategic direction our games take, allocating resources where needed.

Uladzimir Kazlouski
Product Manager

Product is where everything starts, and Uladzimir is like a conductor in an orchestra curating every aspect of it.

Let’s see how did he get here, why did he choose game dev and what he’s like off the clock!

Could you tell us the story about your career path and education?

My career path and education have been quite interesting. After studying at the university, I started out in the advertising world, working for a company connected to contextual marketing for big search engines. I worked there for about five years, eventually starting my own company with a few employees. I enjoyed the challenge and success of running a business, but suddenly, I started to feel bored. I felt the need to try something new. That’s when game dev came calling – I decided to take some QA courses and see what could come from it.

My first job in this area was at one big game dev company. In addition to gaining valuable technical experience, it was great to be part of the game development industry – something that has always fascinated me. After just one month in that role, though, I was invited for an interview at Wargaming. My extensive experience playing World of Tanks helped open doors there, and eventually, I got hired on as a QA specialist.

As a tester, I often came to game designers and product managers with suggestions and potential improvements. At some point, everyone was so fed up with me that they gave me a command, appointed a product manager and said: “Here is a team for you. Take it and make your own decisions!” So I became a Product Manager at Wargaming.

Name several reasons why you chose to join the gaming industry. What is so attractive in the game industry?

I joined the gaming industry because I have been passionate about games since I was a kid. Being in the game industry was one of my wildest dreams, and I am extremely glad that it has become a reality now. Games have always given me an immense sense of joy and fulfilment, and I wanted to be part of the process that helped others experience similar feelings.

What really attracted me to this line of work was how challenging it can be. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to develop successful games that players love, but when you achieve that feeling of accomplishment, it’s incredibly rewarding.

Could you share your perspective on what is so unique about Wargaming?

I think that the best people here are making the best games! This is what makes work at Wargaming really special.

I believe that when you combine the right people with a great product, amazing things can happen. That’s why I’m particularly proud of the fact that we’ve been able to bring together such a dynamic group of individuals in order to create an immersive gaming experience for our players.

It’s truly inspiring to see how each person brings their unique perspective and skill set when working within our company – it allows us to create something truly special! This type of passion, drive, creativity and commitment ultimately creates an exceptional experience for WoT Blitz fans around the globe.

What is so special about your area of responsibility?

I love the challenge of overseeing the entire product. It’s like running a marathon – there’s no finish line. You have to keep going, setting new goals and pushing yourself to achieve them. It’s both exciting and exhausting at times, but that’s what makes it so fulfilling.

Our game is divided into systems (tanks, hangar, new combat mechanics, etc.). Each product manager is responsible for their own list of systems. Systems need to be developed, improved, bugs fixed, etc. In addition to working on specific systems, the product manager looks at the product as a whole and allocates available resources in such a way as to bring maximum benefit and achieve its goals.

Could you share your thoughts about the privileges of being in Lithuania? What do you like the most about this country? Tell the fact why someone should visit Lithuania.

I definitely love the feeling of being in Lithuania – it has a certain charm and warmth that I can’t quite put my finger on.

My family (wife, two kids, English bulldog and exotic cat) has an unwritten rule – we visit some new exciting, beautiful place every weekend. We’ve been in Vilnius for almost half a year and still want to go to different locations we haven’t visited before.

However, the architecture here is stunning, with many historical sites to explore. There’s something special about wandering around cities like Vilnius or Kaunas, where you can really feel time slowing down as you take in all the sights and sounds. And when it comes to food – nothing beats Lithuanian cuisine! You’ll find loads of traditional dishes here, including cepelinai, kugelis and balandeliai – all of which are absolutely delicious!

What are your hobbies?

Well, apart from my hobby of playing WoT Blitz, I do a lot of sports. I love boxing, and I’m an active practitioner. It’s the perfect opportunity to keep fit and let off some steam after a busy day. I can say that cars are my big passion too. You can wake me up at 4 in the morning and ask me about any car model, and I will tell you everything about it!  As for books, Stephen King novels have always been my favourite, although recently, I’ve also been exploring different genres as well as non-fiction.

But you know it’s tough to afford any hobbies when you have such a big family as I do.

Do you have a funny story from your work life?

Actually, I have one! Once, we accidentally changed the parameters of one tank and then found 3-page text on our forum with explanations and theories about why we did this and didn’t tell anybody.

How would you describe your work for the stranger at the bar?

I would describe it as exciting but challenging work with a confusing name. I am like a mini CEO!

What advice would you give to a new joiner?

I would advise all new joiners to be involved in the process. Show enthusiasm and passion for your tasks, and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Make sure you are up-to-date with the latest changes and developments in the project so that you can contribute in meaningful ways. Take the initiative to get involved in discussions and debates about improving the product and making it even better. Take part in brainstorming sessions and think outside of the box for better solutions. Above all, be supportive of your fellow team members – collaboration is essential for us to succeed!
